What is a Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) treatment?
Manual lymphatic drainage, (MLD), is a very powerful and effective treatment for managing conditions like oedema, chronic oedema and lymphoedema (unwanted buildup of fluid in the soft tissue) and lipoedema (unwanted buildup of fat) where the excess fluid is manually moved to drainage points within the body. It is a very gentle, slow and relaxing treatment. Many clients fall asleep during it!
The lymph system was first identified by Aristotle and has been studied at different depths from the 1600s to the present day where we now have a greater understanding of this system.
The lymph system sits alongside the circulatory system but is completely separate from it. It has three main functions:
1) To collect up and dispose of the excess plasma or body fluid; which contains large particles of debris and waste products that the circulatory system cannot collect up. The large particles of debris are things like dead cells, excess proteins and toxins that are found in the soft tissue organs around the body. This recycling of this plasma fluid also helps to maintain fluid balance in the body.
2) This system is part of the immune system so it helps defend the body against disease by producing lymphocytes, and
3) it absorbs lipids (fats) from the intestines and transports them to the blood in the circulatory system.
If the lymph system fails it can cause some very unwanted side effects – so it is a rather important system to look after. Think of it as the dustbin collection service for the body.
Who is MLD treatment for?
Typically this treatment is associated with post-op cancer patients, but because of its ability to collect toxins and cellular waste from around the cells throughout our bodies, it is a powerful treatment that can benefit so many other people too.
Other conditions MLD can help with are:
- Boosting general health and well-being
- Common seasonal illnesses and allergies
- Head tension and nasal issues
- Autoimmune Disorders
- M.E. – this treatment has shown it is particularly effective and beneficial with M.E.
- Cellulite
- Digestive issues
- Anxiety/mood and Stress
- Skin issues
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Sore joints and muscles
- Post-operation clients to help aid in healing
- And of course Oedema, lymphoedema and lipoedema
What are the benefits of Manual Lymph Drainage?
- Eases muscle, joint and body system discomforts by reducing the retain fluid (swelling) in the affected areas
- Increases general blood circulation
- Supports the immune system by boosting defences against bacterial and viral infections
- Helps to detox the body, to wipe the slate clean so to speak
- Helps the body recover from injuries and excessive sports activity
- Helps aid the body’s recovery from surgery
- Helps to smooth the appearance of cellulite
- Great for re-energising tired legs

What to Expect
After filling in a medical history form, a short discussion will follow as Juanita will go through this form with you.
The treatment is very gentle and slower than a regular massage using smaller rhythmic movements, as 70% of the lymphatic system is just under the skin. The treatment is creating an external pressure to move the excess interstitial fluid into the lymphatic system.
The name ‘Manual Lymphatic Drainage’ sounds like a horrendously uncomfortable treatment, but the reality is – its a very gentle treatment that many if not all clients fall to sleep during it.
Juanita practises what she preaches and pays to receive these treatments from another MLD therapist on a monthly basis because of the many health benefits.
Juanita is offering:
Face & Neck: 50mins – £50
Arms: 50mins – £50
Back: 50mins – £50
Legs: (back & front) 1hr30mins – £90
Full Body: 2hr30mins – £150
Bulk Buy:
6x 50mins sessions = 10% Discount – £270
10x 50mins sessions = 15% Discount – £425
3x Full Body sessions = 15% Discount – £382.50
This treatment is NOT for the following clients:
1) If you are undergoing current treatment for Cancer, this includes all treatments: like chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunology etc.
2) If you have an acute infection in the area like Cellulitis. Treatment should be obtained by your GP for this inflammation and MLD treatments can commence once the infection is under control.
3) If there is a recent history of blood clots like thrombosis (DVT) or a recent history of tuberculosis.
4) If there are untreated cardiac or renal conditions. Once they are under control by the medical team, treatment may be possible with their consent.
